Advocacy

Individuals in treatment need others for their best chances for lasting recovery. As the saying goes, “It takes a village.” Advocating for mental health and addiction awareness and treatment is extremely important to Sovereign Health. Forming alliances helps build a stronger, better and more successful treatment provider – whether it is with individual partners, national organizations, fellow treatment centers, private donors, referents, or current and past patients.

At Sovereign Health, we collaborate with our partners, their families and other organizations who share our commitment to educate the public about mental health and substance abuse, reduce the impact of these conditions on individuals and their families, and improve the lives of our patients. These organizations also share our dedication to improving the lives of people, families and communities affected by mental illnesses, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

A strong advocate can reduce the stigma in the mental health industry, help fight laws preventing access to treatment, educate and spread awareness about mental health, and provide financial and emotional support to those individuals in need. Sovereign works closely on multiple levels with organizations, which include the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP), the Partnership for Drug Free Kids, Psychology Today, The Addict’s Mom and more.

Sovereign’s friends and partners

We are proud to work with the following organizations:

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is a mental health advocacy organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by severe mental illnesses. NAMI provides education to individuals with mental illness, their families and educators in communities. NAMI also advocates for people with severe mental illness to shape national public policy. In addition, the organization leads public awareness events and activities to combat stigma and encourage understanding of mental illness. Sovereign Health works diligently to spread awareness and raise funds through events such as the NAMI Walk, which is an annual walk to bring communities together to advocate for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.

The National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) develops ethical principles in addition to principles of good practice guidelines for member organizations that provide residential, therapeutic and/or educational services. NATSAP endeavors to enhance the growth, learning and personal well-being of young people who attend therapeutic schools, residential treatment programs, outdoor therapeutic programs, wilderness therapy programs and home-based residential programs.

The Partnership for Drug-Free Kids works to reduce substance use disorders among adolescents by supporting families. The Partnership also provides information on teen drug use and dependence. In an effort to improve the outcomes for young people who abuse alcohol and drugs, the organization advocates for improved access to treatment and more effective prevention efforts.

Psychology Today features columns written by renowned psychologists, psychiatrists, academics and writers on today’s psychological concerns, including relationships, mental health, recovery, stress, therapy, education, happiness and more. Sovereign Health works diligently to contribute online articles, twice per month, that provide insight into these topics.

The Addict’s Mom (TAM) provides hope, guidance, resources and support to mothers of children with substance addiction. TAM educates and advocates, as it acts as a liaison between mental health professionals and policymakers, and individuals affected by addiction. TAM also sponsors events dedicated to raising awareness of addiction and reducing stigma. In addition, TAM strives to promote changes in the legal system to benefit people with substance use disorders.

The dual diagnosis program was what attracted me to Sovereign Health. My therapist was always open for discussion and the group sessions were very informative and educational.
